Hand made Christmas Gifts

                                              Christmas Gifts for the Family
Now that these gifts have been given I can
share them with you.  The reclining Mermaid,
made from a pattern by Barbara Schoenoff,
Was created for my sister and brother in law.
She will recline on the bar in their family room.
The tall doll is an item my daughter request several years ago.
She is created from Chili Pepper fabric and has found a
new home hanging in the wall in my daughter's kitchen.

The Joy of Small Groups

We are a small art group called SNO...
               Sculptors Night Out
We formed a year ago to experience work in three dimensions mainly using fibers.  Here are some photos from our Holiday event.  We shared a meal and a wonderful time creating a "junk sculpture" mobile to occupy the studio space of one of our members.

The Five Room House

There is an Indian Proverb that says that everyone  is a house with four rooms:
a physical, a mental, an emotional, and a spiritual.
Most of us tend to live in one room most of the time but unless we go into
every room every day, even if only to keep it aired,
we are not a complete person.

The art quilt pictured here was inspired by this proverb
with the addition of a fifth room.
As an artist, my home must have a creative room.
Since I spend so much time in my creative room
I am reminded by the words of this proverb
to keep in touch with the rest of "my house"
and
The rest of the world
In order to be a complete person.

A Visit to the Black Sheep Farm

Meet a friend, Kathy Cunningham, artist and owner of
The Black Sheep Farm in Brown County, Ohio.   Pictured here at her felting machine.
Find more photos of the farm
and some wonderful fiber art materials at www.theblacksheepfiberfarm.com

While visiting the farm today I took this photo of Prince Romeo.
His wool and the wool of many of his friends on the farm
Become the tresses that I use for the hair on my art dolls.

Wool from the farm makes wonderful doll hair!

Inspiration/Family Adventures

Now here is inspiration for doll making.
My lovely granddaughters going wild in a candy store!

Maine Wild Lupine Quilt in Process

An original art quilt
Working from the photos taken while attending the Maine Lupine Festival in 2011
The background was first pieced in shades of green

Stencil designs were created with freezer paper and Shiva Paintsticks were used to color the dried sticks in the background.    The remainder of the detail is created with cut and fused fabric

2012 International Quilt Festival/Cincinnati 2012

The Cincinnati Landmarks Quilt

featured at the International Quilt Festival/Cincinnati 2012,

was created by the Contemporary Quilt and Fiber Artists.

The project took well over a year and combined the creative efforts of 43 members of the guild.

The overall design concept of the quilt was created

by Cris and Robbie,

pictured here in Cincinnati at the Festival

with the Cincinnati Landmarks Quilt.

At the Festival I took a wonderful workshop

taught by Heather Thomas.

We explored Shiva Paintstiks thru a variety of techniques.

Pictured here is a stencil technique with blended colors.

I'm so motivated by all that I leanered

and ready to explore Shiva Stiks in a larger quilt.
